Meet Eric Dowdle

Growing up as the 10th of 12 children in the American West, Eric Dowdle learned early that every family, town, and community has a story worth telling.
Long before his artwork would appear in millions of homes around the world, Eric developed a fascination with the people, places, history, traditions, and shared experiences that shape who we are. That curiosity would eventually inspire a lifetime of travel, storytelling, and art.
For more than 35 years, Eric has traveled across America and around the world capturing the spirit, personality, history, and hidden charm of the places he paints. Unlike many artists who rely only on photographs, Eric personally visits the cities, landmarks, villages, national parks, and destinations featured in his artwork — walking the streets, meeting local people, hearing their stories, and experiencing the culture firsthand.
Eric truly believes you can feel the difference is in the art - you can really feel the spirit of the place.
That’s why he doesn’t simply paint from photographs. Every painting starts with an actual visit - next a pencil sketch, then every vibrant detail is carefully painted by hand. Transporting you to the place - to truly experience it!

He walks the streets. He watches the sunrise over the mountains. He listens to local stories, explores hidden corners, studies the history, and experiences the energy and personality that make every destination unique.
Whether standing beneath the lights of Times Square, wandering through the quiet streets of a small European village, or hiking through America’s breathtaking National Parks, Eric immerses himself in each place so he can capture not only what it looks like — but what it feels like.
That authenticity is woven into every Dowdle painting.
People don’t just see the artwork - They feel the spirit of the place, the people, the memories, and the stories that make it meaningful.

Every Dowdle painting is designed to feel alive.
Filled with hidden details, humor, local traditions, iconic landmarks, and meaningful moments, Eric’s artwork invites people to slow down, explore, discover, and reconnect with the places, memories, and values that matter most.
At the heart of Eric’s work is a deep love for family, freedom, faith, history, community, and the enduring promise of America — the belief that every person matters, every story has value, and every piece plays an important role in something larger than itself.

That belief is woven throughout his artwork.

From the grandeur of America’s National Parks to the streets of London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, and beyond, Eric’s paintings celebrate the beauty, adventure, optimism, courage, creativity, and shared experiences that connect people across generations and cultures.
Over the course of his career, Eric has created more than 600 original paintings and sold over 25 million puzzles worldwide, becoming one of America’s most recognized folk artists.
