A burgeoning Boston needed a central market. Peter Faneuil offered to build a market for the city on his dime. in 1742 Faneuil Hall opened and met the cities needs until the early 1800's. Faneuil Hall is often called "the cradle of liberty" because of the impassioned, patriot speeches given in the upstairs meeting rom. The need for additional space was met by the building of the Quincy Market with its accompanying twin North and South Markets in 1824. Falling into disuse in the 1960's, the City of Boston came to the rescue and by the 1976 Bicentennial the refaced Faneuil Hall Market Place was resurrected as one of the top stops on the Freedom Trail. During his time living in Boston, Eric came to love the historic market area, the sidewalk vendors, the street performers- especially jugglers, and the beautiful surroundings of market square. This Boston Market is always among the top of the tourist attractions in the country.
